Review of the Casting Supply Specification (CFG)

Thanks to its many years of experience, the SINFONET Network offers training and review services for the Casting Supply Specification (CFG), the tool that ensures clarity, quality, and standardization throughout the entire aluminum casting supply chain.

Why the CFG matters

The production of a die-cast aluminum component involves several players: end customer, contractor, tier-one suppliers, and subcontractors (foundries, toolmakers, machining companies).
The CFG becomes the shared point of reference to:

- Standardize communication between partners.

- Define clear quality and approval criteria.

- Reduce revisions and validation times.

- Improve efficiency and supply chain collaboration.

The CFG process

The 4 phases

A. Design: Use of 3D CAD models with PMI annotations and standard formats (e.g. ISO 10303 AP 242).
B. Engineering: Casting industrialization, tooling design, and process parameter optimization.
C. Sampling and approval: Parameter setup, dimensional checks, NDT inspections and destructive tests, review feedback.
D. Production and quality control: Monitoring stability, tolerance checks, defect analysis, mechanical performance, and cost efficiency.

Benefits of the CFG review

- Technical standardization across the entire supply chain.

- Better collaboration through co-design logic.

- Measurable and shared quality at all stages.

- Reduced risks, non-conformities, and approval times.

- More efficient control of production costs.
